Gareth Hall Stages by Gareth Roberts

[🏁]  Rally report  [🏁]

Got to Traws 6 a.m. All good with scrutineering & noise. Steve arrived in time for a bacon butty & brew. We then put the numbers and stickers on the car and my co-driver Rob 'chicken' Jones arrived.

The first stage was 9.20. We only went 400 yards and met car 12 facing us. He had spun off and beached on the tyres and we lost some time there, but Em Hall, clerk of the course witnessed it and gave us a nominal time.

Further drama followed when two cars went off on the flying finish of stage 2, there was a delay while the cars were recovered but thankfully everyone was ok.

Then car 1 went off on the flying finish of stage 3 at the forestry end and again there was a short delay  but both were ok  and the car was recovered at the end of the rally.

All good on stage 4, however, I had noticed the car was wandering a bit. Back into service and Steve checked and concluded the pre load had gone off the LSD. This couldn't be fixed in service so we decided to fit supersoft tyres on the front to give us some more grip and it worked.

The remaining 8 stages went without any hitches,  all Steve had to do was a quick check over, refuel, and eat cheese & onion crisps [😅]

Very disappointing for Jack Edwards retiring on the last corner of the final stage while lying 2nd in class. We finished 9th overall, 1st in class with a 31-second lead. Thanks to everyone who helped me on the day.
